Stamps for the territory of Lithuania during the Soviet occupation of the Baltic states, 1940-1941.
- On the 15th of June, 1940 Soviet military units invaded the territory of Lithuania.
- On the 21st of July, 1940 Lithuania was declared to the "Lithuanian Socialist Republic" and it was requested of assimilation to the area of the Soviet Union.
- On the 3rd August 1940 Lithuania entered as Lithuanian Socialist Soviet Republic (L.T.S.R. = Lietuvos Tarybų Socialistinė Respublika = Lithuanian for Lithuanian Socialist Soviet Republic) to the Union of the Socialist Soviet Republics (Soviet Union).
- The overprint stamps from 1940 were valid from 1940-08-21 to 1941-03-15. Afterwards were used the stamps of the Soviet Union.
- On the 23rd June 1941 and the following days the Soviet occupation of Lithuania was terminated by the invasion of German military units. (see: Stamps of the German occupation of Lithuania, 1941-1945)
