Category:Stamps of the Don Territory
General Krasnov reconstructed destroyed facilities including the postal service after liberation of the Don from the Bolsheviks. Large supplies of 25 kopek (for ordinary mail) and 50 kopek (for registered mail) denominations were absent at the post offices. The Don government used the low denomination sheets of imperial kopek stamps 1, 2, 3 (perforated and imperforated), 4, and 7 (only perforated) and overprinted these with '25' and '50' (on 7 kopek only). The overprint was made by typography in black ink. Varieties like inverted, double and shifted overprints are known.
In early November 1918 a set of eight stamps was sold exclusively in the territory of the Don oblast, concurrently with unoverprinted imperial stamps, retaining their face value. Don overprints were in use up to the exhaustion of supplies and issuance of Denikin stamps.
