English: Smith & Peifly at 202 North Tenth Street was one of the largest retail and wholesale distributors of auto supplies in the region. It also was the oldest tire recapping and vulcanizing plant, with many years selling Goodyear Tires and providing automobile service to its customers.

The company was founded in 1919 by Ezra J. Smith as the Central Vulcanizing and Tire Company. In 1921, Smith took his brother-in-law, Sidney A Peifley in as a partner. In 1930, the same was changed to reflect that partnership, Smith & Peifley. Richard Peifley, son of Sydney, joined the firm in 1946 after his serrvice in Worl War II, he became vice-president in 1956. The Peifley's bought out the Smith family's shares in 1967 when Ezra Smith retired. Subsequently, Richard Peifley took over the company. He continued as head until his passing in April 1982. The company went out of business at the end of December, 1989.

Ezra J. Smith passed in July 1970 at age 73. Sydney A Peifley passed in June 1971 at age 80.
