Category:Singletons Mill
Singletons Mill was a tidal mill on the Hawkesbury River, NSW, Australia. It was situated about half way between Wiseman's Ferry and Peat's Ferry, near the junction with Laybury's Creek (on the right bank of the river). It was used to mill wheat and maize until the great flood of 1867, which caused extensive damage. The ruin survived in substantially complete form until the early 20th Century. The mill has given its name to the suburb Singletons Mill, New South Wales.
The mill was built by James Singleton, brother and business partner of Benjamin Singleton. James Singleton lived nearby this mill until his death in 1849.
(Note that there were other water-powered mills also known as 'Singleton's Mill', both four earlier ones further upstream in the Hawkesbury River valley and one on the Williams River, which were all associated with Benjamin Singleton and/or James Singleton.)
