The Polish Vasas inherited the fine collection of shields of King Sigismund Augustus. The King had a shield decorated with gold scutum totum auro munitum, for which the Royal goldsmith Giovanni Jacopo Caraglio took 1271 zł. According to a testament prepared in 1623 by Sigismund III, the King's possessions included a golden shield studded with diamonds. |
