The Satmarhi group of temples site is named after the group of seven Hindu temples on the northeast side of Badoh. However, only six temples stand here, the other traceable by its foundation. The site has a scatter of temple parts.

The Satmarhi temples of Badoh were dedicated to Vishnu and Shiva. The artwork, however, also includes those of Shakta tradition, Ganesha, Surya, Vedic deities and others. These temples have been variously dated between 7th and 11th centuries.

These temples are notable for the Vishnu statues in the sanctums that sit in yoga mudra. These, to a casual viewer may appear as the Buddha and these temples as Buddhist. However, the additional Hindu iconography on the statue, on temple's doorway, and the corroborating evidence carved of his vahana Garuda with the sanctum statue leaves no doubt that some of Satmarhi temples were for Vishnu. Some scholars have proposed that these are some of the few temples dedicated in historic Hinduism for the Buddha avatara of Vishnu.

This site should not be confused with another similarly named nearby site: Satmarhia caves in Ramgarh hills, which is about 4 kilometers to the north near villages named Parsora and Ramgarh. The Ramgarh hills site is occasionally called Ramgarh Caves (23°58'36.2"N, 78°13'21.1"E). It consists of three Gupta-era and post-Gupta era locations within about 400 meters of each other. They are Vishnu, Shiva and Shakti goddesses related monuments. They include relief panels, seven caves and a few notable temples. Their "seven rock-cut caves" gives that site a similar sounding name "Satmarhia" (literally, "seven monastic cells"), but are very different than the temples at the Satmarhi site between Badoh and Pathari.
