History
[edit]- 1938-03-16 launched as reefer ship at Deutsche Werft, Hamburg-Finkenwerder (Yard No 214)
- 1938-05-06 completed, named Santa Cruz, Oldenburg-Portugiesischen Dampfschiffs-Rhederei, Oldenburg
- 1939 requisitioned by Kriegsmarine (German Navy)
- 1940 converted to auxiliary cruiser, registered as Handelsstörkreuzer 4 (HSK 4) and renamed Thor
- 1940-03-14 in service as auxiliary cruiser
- 1942-11-30 burnt out at Yokohama due to explosion of German supply ship Uckermark (35.27N/139.38E, 13 dead)
