English: St. Peter’s brother and first apostle to follow Christ, he was quartered on a “ X ” shaped cross , in Patras, by order of the Proconsul Egeas (or Aegeates) to be tortured as Christ in whose name he preached.
This painting was found in 1990, found in a sacristy after a century of oblivion. It was first awarded to Richard Gouy, a Nevers' painter of the late eighteenth century, but a recent restoration has revealed a fragment of signature, so its author remains anonymous.

Ce tableau a été retrouvé, en 1990, plié, dans une sacristie après un siècle d’oubli. Il a été d’abord attribué à Richard Gouy, peintre neversois de la fin du XVIII° siècle, mais une restauration récente a permis de mettre à jour un fragment de signature, son auteur reste donc anonyme.
