The Sagra delle Ciliegie e delle Rose held in Macchia, a hamlet of Giarre, is a folk event with a long tradition that attracts many visitors from the area. This territory, in particular the Fondo Macchia area, is known throughout eastern Sicily for the cultivation of cherries. Established in 1953, the Sagra delle Ciliegie e delle Rose (Festival of Cherries and Roses) originates from an ancient peasant festival that was once held on the occasion of the cherry harvest. Various folk groups from different places perform.
