English: This street is named after Saint Steven (Santo Estevao) who is traditionally venerated as the Protomartyr or first martyr of Christianity. Accused of blasphemy, at his trial he made a long speech denouncing the Jewish authorities who were sitting in judgment on him and was then stoned to death.His feast day is celebrated on the 26 December in the Western churches and 27 December in the East.
