English: This street is named after Augusto Miguel Bombarda (Rio de Janeiro, 6 March 1851 - Lisbon, 3 October 1910) was a doctor, scientist, teacher and Portuguese politician. He was considered to be the "civil head" of the revolution of the 5 October which saw the formation of the republic.The street was the main east to west access of the medieval city and linked the upper district of the city to the quayside. The church of Santa Maria da Graça stood at the south west end of the street. The church was ruined by the earthquake of 1755.
