English: The rota or turn is a cylinder, open on one side, that is built inside a wall of a monastery, nunnery or foundling hospital. It was used for exchanging mail and food with cloistered clergy, being their only communication with the world.
Español: El torno es un hueco cilíndrico empotrado en una pared, que se abre a los dos lados de dicha pared; en su interior se encuentra una construcción de madera que rueda sobre un eje vertical que permite intercambiar bienes entre los dos lados de la pared sin que haya contacto visual entre ellos. Habitualmente se encontraba en las entradas de los monasterios y conventos, siendo su única comunicación con el exterior.
