Roger and Angelica Mounted on the Hippogriff.
Roger helps Angelica mounted on the Hippogriff : Barye illustrate an episode from Canto X of Orlando Furioso, an Italian epic poem by Ariosto published in 1532 that was very popular in the first half of the 19th century. After rescuing Princess Angelica from a sea monster, the knight Roger carries her away on his mount, a creature part horse and part griffin.

The model for this group was designed as a mantelpiece ornament for the Duc de Montpensier (1824–1890), son of Louis-Philippe, King of the French (1830–1848).
