  • One or two horses depending on the vehicle's weight
  • Four wheels
  • Covered (and sides panelled or curtained)
  • Elliptic or platform springs
  • Driver's seat in the body at the same level as other seats and under the same roof (and so considered the reflection of a democratic nation)

Rockaways were developed about 1830. From about 1870 often known as depot wagons and from about 1890 as station wagons

  • Rockaway-Landau and Rockaway-Landaulet or Landau-Rockaway and Landaulet-Rockaway combining the features of the two vehicles
