Distinguish Category:Medieval beds. Generally, in medieval beds from the 1300s onwards, the frame is hidden by the bedding and any canopy or curtains are suspended from the ceiling and walls. Developments in woodworking and metal fasteners, which spread gradually, with the Renaissance, across Europe, mean that bedframes become disassembleable and portable, important in a world where the rich and powerful travelled around their domains. Renaissance beds therefore have an exposed, elaborately-carved frame, and a canopy supported on posts.
