The Regent Theater opened on 1 September 1914 on the first floor of the Chanock Apartment building, 925 Hamilton Street, on the northwest corner of Fountain and Hamilton Streets in Allentown.

The Regent was a nickelodeon-type theater, owned by the Lyceum theater a half-block away at 943-947 Hamilton. While the Lyceum was a stage and Vaudeville theater that also showed silent films, the Regent would show silent films only, and would be an alternate for patrons to attend on those nights that the Lyceum was presenting live entertainment.

With the fire burning down the nearby Lyceum in May 1916, the Regent continued to show silent films during World War I and after. The Regent Theater closed on June 4th, 1921 with the opening of the new Rialto Theater. After it closed, the building was known as the Regent Building for many years afterwards.
