Of the size and appearance of a model aircraft with a 4.5-foot wingspan and a radio device and rotating camera in its nose, the Raven is widely used for observation at variable altitudes up to 10 miles from the operator. It is a company-level device widely used for multiple purposes mainly by Defense and Justice Department units working together in joint operations. The Raven requires trained operators and training exercises of which there are many. Training of National Guard units is under the joint sponsorship of the National Guard Bureau and other agencies.
