Category:Rainier Grand Hotel
The Rainier Grand Hotel, also known as the Noyes Block and the Noyes Rainier Grand was located at 913 1st Avenue. The original 4-story portion was built from late 1889 to early 1890 by Butte, Montana capitalist John Noyes, who also operated the hotel. Designed by either Hetherington & Clements or Byron A. Pugin (newspaper accounts contradict each other), it was architecturally identical to the still-standing Diller Hotel. In October 1897 Noyes purchased the adjoining vacant lot on the Southwest corner of 1st and Madison from Albert Pontius and expanded his hotel with a 6 story annex, designed in a much simpler style by Albert Wickersham. The hotel, along with the entire block would be razed in 1930 for construction of the current federal office building.
