Deutsch: 1794–1798 bildete sich die erste katholische Gemeinde nach der Reformation, 1841 erfolgte ein kleiner Kirchenbau am Sophienblatt 19, Ecke Hafengasse (nicht erhalten).
Die katholische Propsteikirche St. Nikolaus wurde als Backsteinbasilika 1891-1893 von den Kieler Architekten Bornatsch nach Plänen von Arnold Güldenpfennig erbaut. 1943 durch Bomben stark zerstört, Turmhelm und Dach vernichtet. Vorläufige Wiederherstellung 1948, umfassende Erneuerung 1966/67 nach Entwurf von Otto Schnittger unter Veränderung des Äußeren durch Neugestaltung der Westfassade und des Turmes.

English: In 1794-1798 the first Catholic community was formed after the Reformation, and in 1841 a small church was built at Sophienblatt 19, corner of Hafengasse (not preserved).
The Catholic Provost Church St. Nicholas was built as a brick basilica between 1891 and 1893 by the Kiel architect Bornatsch according to plans by Arnold Güldenpfennig. Heavily damaged by bombs in 1943, the spire and roof were destroyed. Preliminary restoration in 1948, comprehensive renovation in 1966/67 based on a design by Otto Schnittger with changes to the exterior by redesigning the west facade and the tower.
