In March 1886, "new" Kansas City, Kansas, was formed through the consolidation of five municipalities: Armstrong, Armourdale, Riverview, and Wyandotte, and "old" Kansas City, a mere thin wedge between the Kansas River and the state line. Media local to present Kansas City, Kansas, but predating 1886, may refer to either these towns or to Kansas City, Missouri.
