English: Poodles come in many colourations, of which universally approved are: black, white, liver (brown), apricot, red, and silver (progressive gray).

Colourations not approved by any major breed standard are:

  • brindle (striped)
  • tan markings ("phantom")
  • white markings ("parti" and "harlequin", or "abstract"/"mismark")
  • eumenalistic masks (including fawn)
  • merle (altough only seen in a line of dubious purity).

Colourations approved in some major standards but not in others are:

  • sable (born with black sable markings that go away almost completely with age as the growth turns red/apricot/cream/white and the dark ends are cut off)
  • liver-gray ("cafe au lait" or "silver beige"; born dark brown, turns lighter like a silver with age; liver or light liver nose).
  • black-and-white piebald ("harlequin")

Colourations technically not approved in the FCI standard:

  • blue (born black, turning a very dark gray within a few years -- usually registered and shown as silvers)
  • cream (too light to be apricot, too dark to be "poor white" -- usually registered and shown as apricots, or if pale enough, as whites).
