English: Internal combustion piston engines, where the valve ports are controlled by the piston passing ports cut in the wall of the cylinder.
As the valve timing is bound to the cycle of the piston, these are necessarily two-stroke engines.
Most small two-stroke petrol engines (i.e. small engine and motorcycle) are of this type, although many also have additional reed or disk valves.
Large opposed-piston engines are also piston-ported.Subcategories
