The former Petone Memorial Technical College, now operating as the Petone campus of WelTec (part of Te Pukenga), is registered by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust as a Category II structure, with registration number 9752.
Built between 1909 and 1967, the institution was first known as the Petone Technical School. It expanded in the 1920s and 1930s to provide vocational education, with its trades and applied courses contributing to Petone's manufacturing and industrial character. The campus remains a vocational educational centre used by WelTec.
The heritage features of the campus recognised in the heritage listing include the brick and iron entrance gates and fencing leading in from Buick Street (early 20th century), the 1930s workshop built in Stripped Classical style, the timber Classroom building (1936) and the Modernist concrete workshops (1967).
