Percy Brown's Cafeteria - Restaurant opened in the new Whitehall Mall in September 1966.
The restauraunt in Whitehall Mall was able to serve 400 persons simultaneously, 325 of them in the restraunt area. It had its own bakery and kitchen and specalized in home-style cooking with a strong emphasis on variety as well as quality. The restraraunt was part of a chain established in 1905 by Percy Brown, a one-man butcher shop in Wilkes Barre. In June 1976, to increase customer useage, the restraunt included the "Applause Dinner Theater" as part of its offerings. Percy Brown's in Whitehall Mall closed in August 1979, and was replaced by the Seafood Shanty, and later the Old Country Buffet.
With the closure of Percy Brown's, the Dinner Theater moved to the Shephard Hills Country Club in Wescoesville. It renamed itself the "Shepherd Hills Dinner Theater in January 1981 and lost it's identity, becoming part of the Country Club. It eventually closed in 1988.
