Various rock pulpits were used by the Covenanter prophet Alexander Peden to preach to outdoor conventicles. One adjacent to the River Ayr near Failford is also known as Peden's Cove. Two other rocks called Peden's Pulpit are next to the Caaf Water, near Dalry, North Ayrshire. He is also said to have preached at the Peden stone at Harthill, Shotts, Lanarkshire.
