Beneath the image of Mary, the artist rendered an open doorway that offers a distant view of Jerusalem. in the icon of Our Lady, we can see that her hand is touching her forehead as if she has an intense pain in her head. her arm and cloak are held open as a place of refuge and safety: Chapter 12 of the book of Revelation talks about a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars and she gives birth with a cry of pain. Français : Notre Dame qui fait tomber les murs (2010) peinte par l’iconographe britannique Ian Knowles - À Bethléem, le mur de séparation construit par Israël passe par le jardin des Sœurs de l’Emmanuel qui se trouvent ainsi illégalement dépossédées de ce qui appartenait à leur congrégation. Elles ont fait peindre l’icône “Notre-Dame qui fait tomber les murs” à même le béton, juste à l'entrée de leur monastère.
Dans l’icône de Notre Dame, nous pouvons voir la main de la Vierge touchant son front, comme si une grande douleur lui traversait la tête. Son bras et son manteau sont maintenus ouverts, comme un lieu de refuge et de sécurité. Le douzième chapitre de l’Apocalypse évoque une femme couronnée de douze Étoiles, revêtue du Soleil avec la lune sous ses pieds et donnant la vie dans un cri de douleur. Marie, enceinte, revêtue par le soleil, est poursuivie par une bête voulant dévorer son enfant.
