English: The Otago was an iron-hulled sail-steamer, built in 1863 by JG Lawrie, Whiteinch, Glasgow, Yard No 19 for the Inter Colonial Royal Mail Steam Packet Co Ltd, London. Dimensions: length × beam = 236 × 26.8 ft (71.9 × 8.1 m). Tonnages: 645 GRT and 457 NRT. Later owned by Panama Line. In 1872 Thomas Underwood acquired her & registered her in Hong Kong. In 1873 he transferred her registration to Melbourne. She was refitted in Melbourne, increasing her tonnage to 745 GRT. Worked the trans-Tasman Sea route until wrecked at Chaslands Mistake south of Otago, New Zealand, 4 December 1876[1][2]
