Español: En alfarería, se denomina orza a la vasija de la familia de las ollas, de boca ancha, aunque más cerrada que en éstas, base plana y recogida, con dos o más asas o sin ellas, y vidriada en el interior y en su tercio superior exterior. Se fabrican muy diferentes tamaños, desde medio litro hasta diez litros de capacidad y, en algunos alfares, mayores. Empleada para conservar en aceite la matanza y otros alimentos: queso, berenjenas, pimientos, etc.
Su etimología, para Joan Corominas y el Diccionario de la Real Academia Española: del latín 'urceus' (la misma raíz del término italiano 'orcio'), jarra, jarro u olla. Para el renacentista Antonio de Nebrija: vaso de barro, haciendo derivar la voz 'orça' del latín 'orca-ae' (tinaja).[Nebrija,A.de (1492). English: In pottery, called 'orza' to the pot of the family of the pots, mouth wide, although most closed that base collection, with two or more handles or without them, and flat, and glazed on the inside and on the outside upper third.
