Oread Limestone is notable for its association with the "sacred" Mount Oread of the University of Kansas, where is was used in the construction of the earliest buildings. A hard and brittle stone, it is not so appropriate for sawcut or carved trim, where other stone may be used; for example, Dakota Sandstone trim or more commonly Cottonwood Limestone trim.
