Most of 7th Brigade Park was originally covered by open forests with a mostly grassy understorey. Much of this was cleared for grazing, with more clearing occurring after the army base was established. Some of the original forest remains and regrowth has established young forest communities in other areas. Two distinct forest types are found. One has an unmown grassy understorey while the other is a forest with a mown grass understorey.
