This 1894 medical library retains most of its original fittings, including glass-fronted book cases, the fireplace, the spiral staircase with no pole and a flying section, the decorative stone and leaded windows, the gallery, and the grand main doorway. There is even an unusual 1894 column hatstand, which matches the bookcase fittings. The decorative ceiling is also original to the building, and was possibly created by John Wormald Appleyard, who had already created more complex ceilings in the Grand Theatre and Assembly Room, Leeds.
