Category:Octagon House (Allentown, PA)
The Octagon House, 824 Union Street, Allentown was built about 1845, according to residents in the 1920s. It was origionally a well-furnished 12-room home.
About 1900 it was converted into a rooming house, known as the Stag Hotel. By the 1930s it had became a home for vagrants, drinking, and prostution. Complaints by neighbors of men coming and leaving from the building at all-hours led to the Stag Hotel being raided by the Allentown Police several times. In Feburary 1932, the rooming house was closed, and apparantley a large amount of victorian-era furnature was seen being taken out of it.
In December, 1935 it was reopened as "The Little Hotel", and again was used as a rooming house, and as a low-cost restaurant. In October 1941, it was renamed as the "Union Hotel" and finally was closed and torn down about 1946.
