Octadecyl compounds are chemical compounds formally derived from octadecane, C18H38, by replacement of one of the three hydrogen atoms on the terminal carbon (i.e. carbon #1) with other atoms or functional groups. Octadecyl compounds contain the octadecyl group, C18H37, and have the general formula C18H37X, where X is any chemical element or group.
