Obuasi (also Obuase) is the capital of the Obuasi Municipal District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The town is located on the railway line Takoradi-Kumasi. The area around Obuasi was and is a traditional center of the Gold mining since precolonial times. The Obuasi-Mine is today (2015) the ninth largest gold mine of the world.
