English: Niche chapels are sort of a hybrid between wayside shrines and niches. As niches, they are attacched to a building, but, as wayside shrines, its purpose is veneration rather than decoration. Usually contain paintings, statues (sometimes covered by a pane) or decorated tiles. Common in the Western Mediterranean.
- For freestanding chapels, non attached to buildings.
See also category: Niches.
- For religious niches, yet decorative rather than venerative.
