English: The Newfield was a iron/steel barque of 1306 tons, built 1889 by Alexander Stephen & Sons Dundee (Yard No 89) for Brownelles & Co., Liverpool. On 29 August 1892 she was on voyage from Sharpness to Brisbane with a cargo of fine rock salt. 1850 tons, when she was lost after running aground. The reason was a navigational error, where Cape Otway light was mistaken for King Island lighthouse. 9 died.[1][2][3]
