English: Newel posts, also called newels or central poles — an upright post that supports the handrail of interior stair railings.

It is the primary post at the foot of Staircases, and can also be used as intermediate posts at landings.
Although the primary purpose is structural, newel posts can have notable decorative reliefs and other ornamentation.
