Category:Nereid mosaic (Musée de la Romanité)

A badly damaged mosaic found in 1969–1970 during excavations beneath rue Sainte-Marguerite in Nîmes, originally displayed in the Musée archéologique and now in the Musée de la Romanité. Among the preserved fragments are two hexagonal panels of female figures with billowing cloaks riding taurocamps (taureaux marins). One of these panels was originally interpreted as a depiction of Europa and the bull, but the figures are now usually identified as Nereids instead: see, e.g., J.-L. Fiches and A.
