English: In music theory, a Neapolitan chord (or simply a "Neapolitan") is a major chord built on the lowered (flatted) second (supertonic) scale degree. The Neapolitan most commonly occurs in en:first inversion so that it is notated either as ♭II⁶ or N⁶ and normally referred to as a Neapolitan sixth chord.

Nederlands: Het Napolitaans sextakkoord of kortweg Napels genoemd) is een gealtereerd akkoord in de muziek dat bestaat uit de eerste omkering van het akkoord op de verlaagde tweede trap in mineur. Het is feitelijk het subdominantakkoord met in plaats van de kwint een verlaagde sext. De notatie van het Napolitaans sextakkoord is ofwel ♭II⁶ of N⁶. Het heet een 'sext'-akkoord omdat het interval tussen de terts en de grondtoon een sext is.
