The National Research Project on Reemployment Opportunities and Recent Changes in Industrial Techniques was created in December 1935 as part of the Works Progress Administration. Between December 1936 and July 1937, documentary photographer Lewis Hine created photo studies of 41 plants in 14 American industrial communities.
