English: The Cathedral grounds, or the Cathedral Close was planned by Frederick Olmsted, Jr., an American landscape architect, in 1907-1928. He envisioned an urban oasis, including the Bishop's Lawn and Garden, inspired by medieval church walled gardens called closes, the Walker Fern Garden and Garth Garden, that can be found on the north side of the cathedral; the Phyllis Nitze Shrub Garden and the Kenney Garden are located south of the cathedral, and the West Front Oak Grove - on the west front; the 5-acre beech and oak Olmsted Wood - on the south.
