Nagunur, also spelled Nagunoor, Nugunur, Nagaruru or Nalugunovalu in historic texts, is presently a village-like small town about 10 kilometers north of Karimnagar, Telangana, connected by State Highway 7 to India'a highway network. It is home to the modern Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences, as well as many historic Kakatiya-era temples and ruins of Shaiva, Vaishnava and Shakti traditions of Hinduism, as well as those of Jainism. Evidence and many inscriptions found in this region suggest Nagunur was a major town or city and an important religious center by about 12th to 13th century CE.
