History

The training ship Murena (A 5305), once Aragosta class in-shore minesweeper, built by C.N.S.A. Shipyard in Marina di Carrara. Launched on May 30, 1957, completed and entered in service on August 1st, 1957 with given pennant 5466 and name “Scampo”. The ship was decommissioned in 1979 and underwent to conversion work at the Arsenal of La Spezia. The new unit, on September 1st, 1983, was renamed “Murena” with pennant number A 5305. The ship on June 1, 2002 was transferred to the 74th Training Naval Group as training ship for the Cadets of the Italian Naval Academy.
