Located at 151 East Gorham Street in Madison, Wisconsin, at the corner of Butler Street, the Mrs. Ellen Cheney House was designed by David R. Jones in Italianate style and built in 1877 (see the Property Record online). Renovations were made in 1948 and 1955.
The house is clad in painted brick with a hipped rod featuring wide overhanging eaves, replacement one-over-one windows, arched windows and decorative stone headers, a rusticated stone base, and a front porch with Doric columns on paneled bases and a hipped roof.
The house is a contributing structure in the Mansion Hill Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
