The Mission Station Anyako was founded in 1857 on the north bank of the Awuna Lagoon on the Anyako isle by missionaries of the Basel Mission Society (Basler Missionsgesellschaft) and was later taken over by the North German Mission Society (Norddeutsche Missionsgesellschaft). The station was partial destructed during the Third Anglo-Ashanti War (1869-1874) and later abandoned. In the course of the abandonment was the mission house dismounted by Missionar Schröder († 1890) and in the Mission station Keta rebuilded again. Nevertheless existed on the place in Anyako a mission school still in 1892/1893.
