English: Midland Red West was one of the companies created in 1981 out of the 6 way splitting up of the Midland Red Omnibus Company (see Category:Midland Red Omnibus Company). Originally created as Midland Red (West) Ltd, when it was privatised on 22 December 1986 it came under common ownership with Midland Red Coaches Ltd, the part of Midland Red which had been split out in 1981 as Midland Red Express - see Category:Midland Red (Express) Ltd / Midland Red Coaches Ltd. The two companies were merged under the new name Midland Red West Ltd - with the combined coach operations retaining the Midland Red Coaches brand, phasing out the Midwest brand adopted by Midland Red (West) Ltd. The 1986 buyout had been achieved through a parent company called Midland Red West Holdings Limited, and from 1987 through a series of subsequent mergers and aquisitions by and of this parent company in other operating areas near and far, while Midland Red West was retained as a separate company and identity, it had been set on a path that saw it eventually become part of the nation-wide First group, leading to the company identity being phased out from April 1998 in favour of a First Midland Red identity with First corporate livery, with the company itself being renamed First Midland Red Buses Ltd on 26 March 1999 - see Category:First Midland Red. In the late 1990s, the rights to use the Midland Red Coaches name had also been sold to a different company.
