- English: M87*, nicknamed Pōwehi, is the first directly imaged black hole, located in the core of galaxy Messier 87. The proposed name is Hawaiian, sourced from the Kumulipo chant: Pō, profound dark source of unending creation; wehi, honored with embellishments.[1][2]
