English: Meleke (Arabic: "kingly") is a lithologic type of white, coarsely crystalline, thickly bedded limestone found in the Judean Hills in Israel and the West Bank. It has been used in the traditional architecture of Jerusalem since ancient times, especially in Herodian architecture – and may be referred to as Jerusalem stone, a more generic name applied to types of pale limestone and dolomitic stone common in and around the city. The meleke itself has been used in many of the region's most celebrated structures, including the Western Wall. Other subclasses of the Jerusalem stone may include Mizzi Hilu ("Sweet rock"), Mizzi Ahmar ("Red rock") and Mizzi Yahudi ("Jewish rock").
