For further information on the sculpture of the Wool Exchange, Bradford, see Mawer and Ingle. Although the sculptor James Tolmie (1826–1866) received the commission for these medallions, he died before he could begin carving them. It was the Leeds stone carvers, Mawer and Ingle, who completed them.
