English: Max Miller (1894–1963) – the Cheeky Chappie was a British front-cloth comedian who was top of the bill in variety in the 1930s, '40s and '50s. He made films, toured in revues and music hall, sang and recorded songs some of which he wrote. He was known for his flamboyant suits, his wicked charm, his risqué jokes which often got him into trouble with the censors. The BBC banned him twice, one period of which lasted 5 years.
